Our Lineage and History
Our programs are inspired by the Perfect Wisdom stream of Mahayana Buddhism, which includes the traditions of Zen, Dzogchen, Mahamudra and Madhyamika. Timeless Wisdom participates in this great stream by bringing the core teachings of those traditions into Western culture, free of Asian spiritual motifs, rituals, trappings, and specialized language. Our programs use the timeless realization of nondual awareness as the source for authentic intimacy, healing and inner peace.
Timeless Wisdom was founded in 2000 as a Californian nonprofit corporation, with 501(c) 3 status. The current Director of Education is Peter Fenner. He is a leader in the Western adaptation of Buddhist wisdom. He is a pioneer in the new field of nondual psychotherapy. He was a celibate monk in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition for 9 years. He has a Ph.D. in the philosophical psychology of Mahayana Buddhism and held teaching positions at universities in Australia and the USA for over 25 years.
His books include Radiant Mind: Awakening Unconditional Awareness (2007); The Edge of Certainty: Dilemmas on the Buddhist Path (2002); The Sacred Mirror: Nondual Wisdom and Psychotherapy (ed. with John Prendergast and Sheila Krystal, 2003), Reasoning into Reality (1995), The Ontology of the Middle Way (1990).
He has taught workshops at Naropa University, California Institute for Integral Studies, Omega Institute, ZIST (Germany), Terre du Ciel (France), Israel Institute for Mind-Body Medicine, and many other institutes. Peter has given invited presentations at JFK University, University of California, Berkeley, Saybrook College, Stanford Medical School, Columbia University, and many institutions internationally.
